Bite 2019 Dir. Natalie Peracchio

During story discussions in prep, the director and I came up with the idea that Bite was a kind of "daytime noir." The story was inspired by the Nan Goldin photograph "Nan and Brian in Bed," and so naturally we leaned heavily on that photo for the look. We wanted to capture the hot, stifling feel of the photo, so I developed a modified verision of my film stock that emphasised the warm orange tones and contrast of the photo. We shot on a 16mm format lens to add softness and used a higher ISO to add noise, which was then supplemented by my grain algorithm in post. This process allowed us to shoot at very low light levels while still using a high contrast filmic noir feel.
