Ted von Bevern
Flight 2019 Dir. Natalie Peracchio

Flight is a subtle and emotionally intimate story about a woman dealing with her elderly mother's declining health as well as her own internal conflicts. The director and I wanted the cinematography to be clean, naturalistic, and unobtrusive so that the performances could take center stage. We also wanted the entire piece to have a forboding, unsettling feeling so I incorporated elements of sickly green and yellow into the color palette, especially inside her mother's house. Working within the naturalistic lighting style, I manipulated the lead's eye light and the direction of her key light to reflect changes in her internal state over the course of the movie.
